So let me see if this resonates with you, as this is rationally very simple.
Ever been told you can’t have chocolate for a week, you think about chocolate initially A LOT.
Simply knowing something is forbidden keeps it in the forefront of our mind, making it almost impossible to ignore.
The famous experiment of Daniel Wegner, in which one is instructed to not think of a white bear. Inevitably a polar bear pops into your mind, usually within seconds or minutes.
Chocolate is more enticing than a polar bear!!
Most diets attempt to combat this by offering fake replacement indulgences full of chemicals and artificial additives.
Nothing made from a saccharin base is a real treat, as it is just not the real thing and will never taste like it.
Products like fat-free cookies and low-carb processed meals convince our bored palates that this is a treat, or even better than nothing, when we are craving something tasteful.
What needs to happen is that we get our psychological mind-set into a way of building healthy eating habits.
To get to a place where treats are a pleasure and are allowed, eating in moderation and in turn we eat to attain a healthy lifestyle.
Focusing on long term health eliminates the need to eliminate any single food, this then allows us to acknowledge we are allowed a treat, which in turn allows us to identify we are choosing to have that piece of chocolate.
We are in control not the food chocolate!!
The key tip here is diet is a negative, losing weight is a negative so as soon as we try to lose something, our brain then tells us to hold onto it.
Hence if we acknowledge we are choosing to not eat the chocolate at that precise moment in time, our brain will accept it cannot have it now.
However that is not the same as, it cannot have the chocolate ever!!!!!
